The Way You Dance – 27th March 2019 – Finishing Position 7th of 10
Race four of the season for The Way You Dance and the BG Racing shareholders enjoyed an excellent afternoon at Lingfield where we were very well looked after by the Lingfield team and we had the use of the “Director’s Suite” which Keith Murray (who I met through my golf network) was given to use for the day and which he kindly allowed us to use. We dropped The Way You Dance in both class and trip for this run in the hope that this would lead to a better result from him.
Lawrence Grima, Rainer Metellus, Cathy Boyle, Rory Murphy and Ben McGannan joined Phil Boyle at Lingfield along with guests (the aforementioned) Keith Murray and Paul Thorn. After a nice afternoon watching the racing, time passed quickly and we were soon over to the saddling boxes ahead of our race.
The tactics were the same as usual in that The Way You Dance was intended to sit behind the leaders and challenge off the last bend. Away from the start, several horses went forward and The Way You Dance was shuffled back, but turning out away from the stands, the pace slowed and there was some scrimmaging and Shane Kelly had to pull The Way You Dance back and to the outside to avoid trouble. He turned into the back straight in last, but Shane reported later that they were only hacking and he followed the eventual winner down the outside of the field without using much energy. As they turned out of the back, they were up into 4th place on the outside of the field. Down the hill, The Way You Dance came under a ride at the same time as most of his rivals. He was still 4th turning in inside the last two furlongs, but a couple came up his inside turning into the straight and another came from behind. He was still only two lengths off the lead just outside the last half furlong, but he could not go forward from there and finished 7th but only 3 lengths behind the winner.
Shane reported that he had been very happy with his position coming down the hill and he felt that The Way You Dance had stayed on strongly.
We can perhaps try him back up in trip but at the same level next time and hopefully he will soon be back in the winner’s enclosure.
