The Way You Dance was bought for 14,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale in October 2015 by trainer Neil Mulholland. After a break, TWYD started his BG Racing career in March 2016 with a win on the all weather at Wolverhampton ahead of a summer jumps campaign over hurdles that saw him win two more handicaps.
The syndicate entered a second year in November 2016 with the intention of looking at a novice chasing season. This did not go well with The Way You Dance not jumping well in the first two of his three chases and returning sore from all three races. He went back to the flat and notched an unexpected good result, placing at Goodwood on soft ground. After another three tries on the all weather, his campaign concluded with a run over hurdles at Fakenham at a distance of three miles. The step up in trip worked wonders and he recorded a 5 length win leaving us with much to look forward to in 2018!
The third year of ownership saw two more wins and some injury frustration. After a good 2nd on debut on the flat at Chepstow, The Way You Dance won at Lingfield Park on the all weather. A third place at Kempton was followed up with another win at the same track. Unfortunately a bang in that race meant that he was not able to run again before renewal in November 2018.
We entered 2018/19 with high expectations though, but ended up with a very disappointing year. The Way You Dance raced ten times and managed a best placing of 3rd, giving the impression that he was no longer willing to push himself at the end of his races. We tried a change of trainer towards the end of the season sending him from Neil Mulholland to Michael Attwater, but both ended up giving us the same advice – that it would be best for the horse if he was retired and this was the action that we decided to take.
