Weekly Update 01-06-20

By On 1st June 2020

I hope you have had a good week and that you are staying happy and healthy.  The great news is that we have some live racing to watch following official confirmation from the government on Saturday.  The first meeting back is at Newcastle today and then tomorrow is a big day for BG Racing with Silver Imperial running at Kempton!  There are big races almost every day from Wednesday onwards, so it should be a good week.

Our Horses Update

Fr Humphrey – Fr Humphrey is fine,  I spoke to Neil this morning and his report was that he is “looking good”.  We are on track to run in July when the jumps racing restarts.

Shares are only £150 per 1% covering the period to 31st October with discounts for 5% and 10% purchases.  I have some shares still available, so please click here to see more information or contact me if you are interested.

My Brother – My Brother is also fine, Neil reported that he is going well at home and should also be on target for a July return to action.  See here for shareholding details.

Dynamic Kate – is enjoying her summer holiday and will not be back in for a few weeks.  She is an exciting prospect though and will run in the current shareholding period, so now would still be a good time to secure your share and have the first refusal for renewal.  More details on her page.

Silver Imperial – Silver Imperial will be making her racecourse debut at Kempton Park on Tuesday (tomorrow) at 3.55 pm.  She will be ridden by Robert Havlin, a very experienced rider who mainly rides for John Gosden and he should be perfect for her as he should be able to compensate for any inexperience on her part.  It does have to said, however, that the race is ridiculously competitive!  I don’t think I can remember seeing a maiden on the all-weather that looks this good on bare form and breeding!  There are four who were 2nd on debut a couple of whom are very well-bred.  There is First Receiver who has had two runs and was 3rd and 2nd and is owned by the Queen and trained by Michael Stoute and Born A King was 4th on debut but was sired by Frankel so would have cost an arm and a leg at the sales.  Finally, there are five debutants (including us), but these horses sired by Dubawi, Camelot and War Front who would all have sold for tens of thousands of pounds.

Basically, Silver Imperial could run to a very high level and still finish 11th and this is reflected in the betting.  She has opened up at odds in excess of 100-1 and if she finishes midfield in this company, then we could reasonably expect that she has a decent level of ability and should give us plenty of fun.  Realistically, her odds probably reflect her chance.

Whilst shares have been selling well, it is not too late to get involved – if you contact me straight away.  See her webpage for details.  You can contact me, via the website contact page if you want any more information.  I will be very happy to correspond by email or schedule a call.  Being an owner might be the only way you can watch horse racing live this summer, so now could be a great time to get involved.

I should also point out that irrespective of the price paid for shares, if the actual costs are less than I factored into the share price (and they are likely to be if racing is suspended for a long period), then all shareholders receive a proportionate rebate of their fees at the end of the period.

Resumption of Racing

The full race programme for the remainder of June has now been published, so after Tuesday we will be able to pick a target or targets for Silver Imperial’s second run!

Protocols for racing behind closed doors are very strict and there are controls over who can be on the racecourse and it is a very controlled list.  All those attending have to go through training and need to be registered via some pretty comprehensive paperwork before they will be allowed into the track.  There are restricted numbers of stalls handlers, so we may also get more instances of horse failing to run due to problems going into the stalls.

It looks like the package for owners is not as bad as I feared it would be!  I understand that bookmakers will be broadcasting all races on their websites without you needing to have a bet, as long as you have an account and are logged in.  Racing TV is also offering a one-month free trial which may appeal to some people and a digital racecard will be issued to owners and some video restrictions have been lifted so that pre and post-race conversations between the trainer and jockey can be videoed and sent on to owners as long as they are not posted on public social media.

Getting Involved

If you are interested in finding out more about what is involved, then please do get in touch as I would be delighted to discuss things with you.

I issue weekly shareholder updates (which go into more detail than the blog) and frequent updates on social media.  Feel free to like the FaceBook page and follow the Twitter updates.

I also have an e-book entitled “Racehorse Ownership – Everything You Might Have Wanted To Know But Would Not Have Known Who To Ask“.  This is free and the download page can be accessed here.

Have a great week.

Phil
