Weekly Update 03-12-19
By BG Racing Syndicates On 3rd December 2019
I did not make it down to Neil Mulholland’s yard last week as I had planned to, as he was working horses up at Lambourn. I did go and meet him at Newbury on Friday afternoon where I enjoyed an excellent afternoon of racing. We did not get long to chat, however, so I am going to try to get to the yard later this week. I want to get some photos and video of all of the horses.
Despite lower than expected numbers, we had an excellent shareholder visit to Michael Attwater’s yard on Sunday morning where we had plenty of time to see our Anjaal filly and Michael gave us a tour of the yard.
This is an ideal time to join BG Racing and the prospectus providing full details of the new share options and background on each horse is now on the website here. Please contact me, via the website contact page if you want any information on any of the options.
I am aware that all the horses shareholding options run at the same time and for many people, a full year’s outlay in one hit is a pretty significant commitment, so please also consider making payments to me via monthly standing order across the year, if this suits you better.
In the sections below, I quote share prices for 1% purchases and discounts for 5% and 10% purchases. If you would like shareholding in multiple horses that adds up to more than 5% or more than 10%, then please contact me as I may be able to offer some discount even if your share of a specific horse is less than 5%.
There are no problems with My Brother who continues to exercise on the walker. I will speak to Neil about future plans for him in terms of continuing his rehabilitation and his current valuation will look a bargain by the end of the year if he returns to the racecourse at the expected level, as the valuation has to be the best estimate of the price we would obtain if selling now.
This means that new shareholding can be purchased at £65 per 1% share (£300 for 5% and £550 for 10%). The training fee to October 2020 is £250 per 1% share (£1150 for 5% and £2100 for 10%).
Fr Humphrey / Mount Oliver
Neil reported that he is really working Mount Oliver hard to get him ready to race as soon as he can. He needed plenty of work to build his fitness and he is certainly getting it at the moment. Fr Humphrey is fine and enjoying a break ahead of his final on 21st March.
The two of them are still available on a “two horses for one share price” option until 30th April 2020. With Fr Humphrey now qualified for the big prize-money veterans chase final and with Mount Oliver hopefully running at least 5 times in the same period.
Fees to end of April 2020 are £270 for 1% (£1250 for 5% and £2,250 for 10%) and this gets you ownership of both horses and full share of any prize-money won (which will be significant if Fr Humphrey runs well in the veterans chase final).
Anjaal / Silver Miss Filly
The Anjaal filly is continuing to develop and Micahel hopes to have her ready to run at the end of January on the all-weather. She looks strong and is going well. We saw her on Sunday and there are some photos on the BG Racing Facebook page.
The fees for her cover the period to 31st December 2020 and are £240 per 1% share (£1,100 for 5% and £2000 for 10%).
Yeats / Alverstone Filly
The breeder who owns our Yeats filly has confirmed that he is very happy for us to have her for at least two years and would be very happy to extend that as well, as long as her career is developing.
Neil reported that she is still strengthening and he intends to give her a couple more weeks work and then a break over Christmas before kicking on again in the New Year. We are going to try to get her into a couple of national hunt flat races this season ahead of a novice hurdle campaign next season.
Whilst she may only run three or four times between 1st November this year and 31st October next year, she really could be anything and whilst she might end up being quite ordinary, she could be a top-level performer able to contest big races. She is £250 per 1% share (£1150 for 5% and £2100 for 10%) covering the period to 31st October 2020.
From The Stables
After no runners last Tuesday, Neil Mulholland had Runasimi River finish 3rd on Wednesday. Thursday was busier with Neil’s Deputy Jones finishing 3rd whilst his other runner, Glengar, made a bad mistake which effectively cost him his chance. Michael Attwater’s Lawn Ranger was beaten at Lingfield and Johnny Farrelly’s Breffniboy and Black Noah were unplaced.
On Friday, Michael’s Savoy Brown was unplaced at Kempton and Neil’s No Hidden Charges was also unplaced at Newbury. Neil had two runners in the big race on Saturday but Shantou Village and Walt failed to make the frame. Johnny’s Valse Au Taillons was unplaced earlier on the card at Newbury and Michael’s Something Lucky was unplaced at Lingfield in what was a close finish.
There were no Sunday runners from our yards and no joy from several runners on Monday. Dubai Key (Neil), Sehayli (Johnny) and Daniel Dravot (Michael) all finished 8th and Sparkling Dawn (Johnny) obviously miscounted those in front and finished 9th! The bright spot was Neil’s The Wicket Chicken who finished 2nd at 10-1 at Plumpton.
If you are interested in finding out more about what is involved, then please do get in touch as I would be delighted to discuss things with you.
I also have an e-book entitled “Racehorse Ownership – Everything You Might Have Wanted To Know But Would Not Have Known Who To Ask“. This is free and the download page can be accessed here.
Have a great week.
