Weekly Update 08-07-18

By On 8th July 2018

It was great to get My Brother onto the track this week.  It meant going all the way to Perth, but it was brilliant to get him racing.  Whilst I must admit to being very hopeful that he would win, with the benefit of reflection and watching the race again, I think it was a really good debut and gives us plenty to look forward to for the future.  We should be back in action on Wednesday with The Way You Dance at Kempton and here’s hoping he can maintain our record as we are currently one win and three placed efforts from four BG Racing runs this season!

The Way You Dance

We decided that the ground at Nottingham yesterday would be too firm and so early in the week we decided to run at Kempton this coming Wednesday.  There is nothing suitable over hurdles and the ground is too quick for a hurdles run anyway.  We mad the entry on Thursday and we plan to run unless there are any issues in the interim.

Whilst there are 23 entries on Wednesday, TWYD is high enough in the weights that he cannot be eliminated.  Adam Kirby makes his debut for us as a jockey on Wednesday.  Adam is a top rider and currently sits 8th in the jockeys championship with 60 winners already this season.

The race is over 2 miles and looks quite competitive including a runner from the Nicholls yard that has won its last two races and looks to still be on the upgrade.

Get involved now and come racing on Wednesday! Shares are £280.50 per 1%, reducing to £275 per 1% if you buy 5% and £270 per 1% if you buy 10%. Plenty more chances to come racing this summer and there is nothing else to pay before renewal in October. Contact me for details.

Justice Super

Unfortunately my possible re-homing of Justice Super has fallen through.  If anyone reading this would like a well mannered and likeable horse as a hack / pet, please get in touch.

My Brother

My Brother has come out of the race On Thursday well.  Neil reported this morning that “you would know he had raced, but nothing is untoward.”  He is likely to need three or four weeks before his next run, but there is little chance of us finding him any good ground in that window anyway!

The ground was quick enough at Perth and they added “Good to Firm in places” to the going report on the morning of the race, but our race was on the fresh turf and it was very safe ground which Perth did a great job to produce in the current weather conditions.

My Brother proved to be a bit skittish pre-race.  He planted himself for a few seconds in the paddock and was very keen going to the start and Neil was forced to go onto the course to adjust his tack and try to calm him down.  None of this was particularly conducive to a good run!

Once the race started, My Brother was similarly keen and this meant that he did not look good over his hurdles, but this was mainly because he was pulling hard.  Despite the jumping, My Brother always looked like he would be involved at the business end and so it proved.  Turning in he was a possible winner but the early exertions probably took their toll and market rival Judge Earl was not for catching.

Judge Earl was rated 105 and had been given a wind op since his last run.  He may well have improved markedly on that rating.  Outblack Blue who was 3rd was rated 107 and we gave him 3 lbs of weight and a three length beating.  Stay in Touch was 4th and he was rated 109.  We gave him 5 lbs and a 5 length beating.  This all adds up to a performance of 110 plus, first time up when My Brother can only get better.  More experience will help him calm down and settle and should also mean he will jump better and he is likely to also be better on softer ground.  All this could mean that we have a stone or more of improvement that we could find and this would make him a smart performer.

Neil did confirm that he thought that My Brother would certainly be up to winning a novice or maiden hurdle, so there is certainly no need for us to give him a couple of quiet runs to get a handicap mark.

Nothing from that run has done anything to damage our valuation of My Brother.  He looks like he will have success over hurdles and earned some reasonable prize money on Thursday.

Shares in My Brother remain £450 for 1%, but I will discount these to £430 per 1% for 5% purchase and £410 per 1% for 10% purchases. This is an all in cost to 31st October 2018 and at renewal shares will be less than £200 per 1% share to cover training fees should you decide to stay involved for another year.  Please contact me for more information.

From The Stables

Last Sunday, Neil had Code of Law pulled up and Shantou Village 4th at Cartmel.  Magical Thomas was also 4th at Uttoxeter, where for Johnny, Courtlands Prince and Sporting Boy were unplaced.  After a blank Monday, the action was also limited on Tuesday when Neil withdrew both his runners on account of the ground and Johnny’s two, Sehayli and Billy Two Tongues were well beaten.

On Wednesday, Neil’s runners, On Alberts Head, Walt, Goodgirlteresa and Owners Day all finished unplaced.  At Perth on Thursday, Neil’s three runners all ran really well, but all finished 2nd.  My Brother was followed by Perfect Timing and The Detainee.  Also on Thursday, Tully East was unplaced for Alan.  Very Extravagent did not feature at Newton Abbot for Neil on Thursday, but Western Sunrise for Johnny finished a close 2nd.  Alan’s Wonderoftheworld looked beaten at Tipperary when a last fence faller.  There were no runners on Friday and on Saturday, Johnny’s Fool To Cry ran OK, but did not threaten the places.

Get Involved

Buying a share in one or both of the horses is a decision that you will not regret.  All quoted prices include the purchase price of the horse and should you decide to renew for a second year, you will only need to pay training fees which are under £200 per 1% share.  If you are interested in discussing what is involved, then please do get in touch as I would be delighted to discuss things with you.  I also have an e-book entitled “Racehorse Ownership – Everything You Might Have Wanted To Know But Would Not Have Known Who To Ask“.  This is free and the download page can be accessed by following this link: https://www.bgracingsyndicates.co.uk/subscribe-for-our-free-guide/

Have a great week.
