Weekly Update 15-05-18
By BG Racing Syndicates On 15th May 2018
Cracking weekend in France, great company, good food, some good golf and some not so good golf! We shared the train on the way out with Teppal who was off to Longchamp for the FRench 1000 Guineas. Had a few quid each way at 25-1 just on the basis of sharing a train and that paid for a chunk of the food and drink consumed over the weekend.
Back now and trying frantically to get as many jobs done as I can before I head down to Chepstow to see our first runner of 2018. I would have expected that this would have been Justice Super or My Brother but injury obviously stopped the former and the fast ground has held up the latter, so TWYD it is!
The Way You Dance
Our race is a two mile handicap on the flat at Chepstow tonight at 8.20pm. The Way You Dance is joint top weighted and with four non runners only 9 are now due to line up for the race. We have managed to secure the services of the current champion jockey Sylvester De Souza, so we will not be wanting for support from the saddle. Currently The Way You Dance is clear market leader at 11/4, so let’s hope the bookies have got it right!.
I will be at the course and data access permitting, I will do a pre race Facebook Live and hopefully another post race. You will be able to watch these on the BG Racing Syndicates facebook page.
The Way You Dance should now be running regularly as long as he stays injury free. I am excited to see if he can build on his excellent win the first time we tried him over three miles in a hurdle and I think there is a good chance that he can improve on his current handicap mark and maybe win a couple of races for us over the summer. If he does, then he should pay back a big chunk of his share purchase fee in prize money. The shares are very good value at £280.50 per 1% share with (£275 per 1% share for purchases of 5% or more and £270 per 1% for purchases of 10% or more). There is nothing else to pay until November, and only then if you decide to renew. Hopefully there will be plenty of chances to see him in action, so please contact me if you would like to get involved.
Justice Super’s injury has been confirmed as a new one. The original tendon tear was in the top of the tendon and the current injury is right at the both. Our vet has indicated that this injury was almost certainly caused by concussion and not strain. Most tendon injuries are caused by straining the tendon and pulling it apart but some are as a result of a blow, normally the result of an over-reach (effectively the horse kicking himself with another leg). As frustrating as this is for us, it is less damaging for Justice’s long term happiness as this is an easier recovery and he can be left to recover on his own without further treatment. This is unfortunately no chance of him racing again as it is unlikely that the tendon would ever be strong enough to take the stress of racing.
I am hoping to meet Johnny in the next few days to discuss Justice’s future and we will retire him from racing and find him a good home.
We continue to be held up by the ground for My Brother. We did not enter for Newmarket on the 17th as there seemed little chance of the ground softening and the same applies to Leicester on the 21st Our next options are Lingfield on the 24th and Pontefract on the 25th. The delay of his first run does give me some leeway in getting shares sold and the horse is still going well at home.
Shares are £450 for 1%, but I will discount these to £430 per 1% for 5% purchase and £410 per 1% for 10% purchases. I am also happy to take instalment payments. As with The Way You Dance, this is an all in cost to 31st October 2018 and at renewal shares will be less than £200 per 1% share to cover training fees should you decide to stay involved for another year. I am really looking forward to seeing what My Brother can achieve on the racecourse this summer, so if you or anyone you know might be interested in taking a shareholding, please contact me for more information.
From The Stables
Neil had three unplaced runners last Tuesday, but Johnny had a winner when Ascendant won again. Neil had three unplaced on Wednesday, but had a winner through Fingerontheswitch who won at 8-1. Neil’s The Twisler was also second, but his other three were beaten. Alan ran Cerealice at Tipperary on Thursday and he finished 2nd at 14-1.
No placed horses on Friday and Saturday unfortunately. On Sunday though, despite having several unplaced, Neil had Chantecler finish 2nd at 14-1. Johnny had Kalaladesmilley beaten at Plumpton and Alan ran several at Killarney where Bolbec and Templemore Dream were beaten whilst Wonderoftheworld and Edelpour were both 2nd.
Yesterday, Neil had four more losers but notched up another winner at Windsor through Dream Machine. Johnny sent four to Wolverhampton yesterday and whilst three were well beaten, Lake Shore Drive did the business winning at 9/4. Alan had less success at Killarney with three losers and As You Were who was 2nd beaten a nose.
Thinking of Joining Us?
All quoted prices include the purchase price of the horse and should you decide to renew for a second year, you will only need to pay training fees which are under £200 per 1% share. If you are interested in discussing what is involved, then please do get in touch as I would be delighted to discuss things with you. I also have an e-book entitled “Racehorse Ownership – Everything You Might Have Wanted To Know But Would Not Have Known Who To Ask“. This is free and the download page can be accessed by following this link: https://www.bgracingsyndicates.co.uk/subscribe-for-our-free-guide/
Have a great week.
