Weekly Update 27-05-18

By On 27th May 2018

A busy week monitoring the ground, considering entries and declarations and deciding on whether and where to run!  We finally made a decision on The Way You Dance and more details are below and we also have a plan for My Brother!

Unfortunately the gloss was taken off a good week yesterday when I received an email with some very sad news.

Peter Bickley

Peter Bickley was a new BG Racing shareholder having taken a shareholding of My Brother.  I have known Peter for many years, having met him through horse racing.  He ran High Moor Racing and my first ever ownership shareholding was bought through High Moor.  Peter and I have been friends ever since and he gave me loads of help and advice when I set up BG Racing.

Late last year, Peter was diagnosed with Motor Neurone disease and this was affecting his speech which meant that our communication was mainly by email recently and I used to send him videos that he could watch on his iPad.  Peter remained very positive in his outlook and you would not have known that he was ill from the tone of his communications.

Unfortunately, Peter’s wife Jill emailed me yesterday with the worst of news.  Peter had been taken into hospital following some complications arising after a recent operation and sadly he passed away peacefully yesterday.  I know that Peter was so excited to see what My Brother was capable of this summer and I am gutted that he is not with us to see My Brother run.

We have lost a lovely man and I will miss him.  Peter was an excellent judge of a horse and I hope My Brother does him proud this year.

The Way You Dance

The Way You Dance was only increased by 3lb to 62 on Tuesday which was a relief having decided not to run at Nottingham or Yarmouth off our old mark!  He has been declared today for a two mile handicap at Lingfield Park on the all weather on Tuesday.

The race is at 4.40pm and is for horses rated up to 65.  There are 14 runners (which hopefully will ensure a good pace which will suit) and Sylvestre De Sousa takes the ride again for us.  The track (downhill section turning into a fairly short straight) is probably more of a concern than the other runners in the race!  We know he will handle the surface though as he has run on the all weather several times before.

I will upload a race diary from Chepstow either later today or tomorrow so it is up before he runs again!

It is not too late to buy a share of The Way You Dance and come racing Tuesday as an owner.  Shares are £280.50 per 1%, reducing to £275 per 1% if you buy 5% and £270 per 1% if you but 10%.  Already placed this season, you should get plenty of chances to come racing this summer and there is nothing else to pay before renewal in October. Contact me for details.

Justice Super

I did not manage to get down to see Johnny this week, the next target is to go down next weekend.  Justice Super has been turned out in one of the paddocks.

My Brother

We did not get the ground we wanted for My Brother at Lingfield or Pontefract this week and passed on both races.

I spoke to Neil yesterday and we discussed a possible race at Doncaster this Friday which we would have needed to enter yesterday.  After a chat, we have decided to give this a miss and go straight hurdling.  We do not want to switch him back and forth between flat and hurdling and he has been schooling and jumping really well, so we will stick to that route for now.  There are fixed brush hurdle races at Southwell on the 5th and 12th June and one of these is likely to see the debut for My Brother.

Shares are £450 for 1%, but I will discount these to £430 per 1% for 5% purchase and £410 per 1% for 10% purchases.  I am also happy to take instalment payments.  This is an all in cost to 31st October 2018 and at renewal shares will be less than £200 per 1% share to cover training fees should you decide to stay involved for another year.  I am really looking forward to seeing what My Brother can achieve on the racecourse this summer, so if you or anyone you know might be interested in taking a shareholding, please contact me for more information.

From The Stables

Nothing from our stables on Monday.  Several non runners on Tuesday, but Neil had three runners, Silverturnstogold who was beaten, Cape Banjo who was placed and Tenby Two who just missed the frame.

Neil had a winner on Wednesday when Dead Right won at odds on but Activial and Rosseti failed to add to the returns and for Johnny, Stringybark Creek failed to place again.  On Thursday, Beast failed to trouble the places for Johnny, but Alan had a 25-1 winner over in Ireland.  The ground was a factor at Worcester on Friday, as Neil pulled some of his out on arrival.  Conna Cross made the frame finishing 3rd for Johnny and Bermeo just missed the places for him as well.  Marvellous Monty was 3rd for Johnny later on the card, keeping Neil’s Mrs Burbidge out of the frame.  Neil’s other runner Owners Day was down the field.

Saturday was a busy day.  Dieg Man made the trip up to Cartmel a worthwhile one winning for Neil, who had Masquerade Bling placed over at Salisbury.  At Ffos Las, Floral Queen was unplaced, as was Inaminna and List One.  Johnny had two runners in the same race and they both ran well with Western Sunrise 2nd and Big Picture 3rd.

Thinking of Joining Us?

All quoted prices include the purchase price of the horse and should you decide to renew for a second year, you will only need to pay training fees which are under £200 per 1% share.  If you are interested in discussing what is involved, then please do get in touch as I would be delighted to discuss things with you.  I also have an e-book entitled “Racehorse Ownership – Everything You Might Have Wanted To Know But Would Not Have Known Who To Ask“.  This is free and the download page can be accessed by following this link: https://www.bgracingsyndicates.co.uk/subscribe-for-our-free-guide/

Have a great week.

Phil
